Ariel Bailey (Ms.Ed)
Mentoring, Guidance and Therapy for Adults, Teens and their Parents
About Me
Hi! My name is Ariel Bailey. I’m a husband and a father to a young boy. For over a decade I have worked in education as a teacher and advisor in high-schools, both in New York and Tel Aviv. Subsequently, for the past 5 years, I have served as a school counselor and psychotherapist. I have always been fascinated by people’s stories and their perception of the world.
I invite you to my clinic, for an attentive and non-judgmental conversation, combining a psychodynamic and behavioral approach with the world of mindfulness and acceptance therapy. Additionally, drawing from my experience in the school system, the clinic specializes in psycho-educational work with adolescents and family counseling for parents of teenagers. The interventions offered range from mentoring to more traditional mental health counseling, based on the client’s needs and circumstances. I am glad to accompany you through the healing and growth of your choosing.
"The curious paradox is that when I accept myself just as I am, then I can change."
Carl R. Rogers
On Becoming a Person: A Therapist's View of Psychotherapy
I first came across Carl Rogers’ words as a high-school teacher, and they continued to guide my work even more as a therapist. And among his many wise and wonderful words, I particularly liked this quote. Theoretically, there’s a contradiction between the desire to love and accept ourselves, and the inner need to move and evolve in order to feel - simply - better: with happiness and ease, purpose and self confidence; experiencing a life of meaning, recognition, independence and freedom. But this contradiction isn’t necessarily the whole story, and with growing awareness, a soft presence, and mostly the willingness to reflect and change, both objectives can exist in harmony.
Services
Individual counseling for teens, young adult and parents of adolescents
I offer an integrative approach that combines the viewpoint of classic psychodynamic therapy, with behavioral therapies such as CBT, ACT and Mindfulness. This approach is proven to be useful with teens and young adults, as it balances practical work towards attainable goals with more existential questions of personal identity and emotional growth.
Parental guidance & family counseling with teens
The family system is of paramount importance, both in sibling and parent-child dynamic: it influences how our core beliefs are formed, consciously and not, by verbal and non-verbal messages we provide and receive. More often than not, we discover that a third mediating party is required to open and enable healthier and smoother communication between people who otherwise stuggle to do so on their own, for various reasons. That is particularly true in the realtionship between parents and adolescents, which is full of challenges as is. From my experience as an educator and my many interactions with parents as a school counselor, I am extremely qualified to assist you in fulfilling your desired vision of family and parenting.
